There are three classes that a person needs to complete to be a volunteer firefighter in Arkansas.
- Intro to Firefighting – This gives basic knowledge such as organization of departments, fire science(how fires begin and how to extinguish them), basic methods to extinguish fire, and rescue victims.
- Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) – This gives basic knowledge on the equipment that firefighters wear and the breathing apparatus we use to survive in dangerous environments.
- Wildland Fires – This class is typically taught by Arkansas Forestry Commission and it gives lessons in wildland fires which is a different type of firefighting from structure fires.
Wedington FD hosted Intro and PPE for some of our firefighters and two from Prairie Grove this weekend.
